Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences was founded in 1930 by the “Educational Renaissance” Association under the name of the Free School of Political Economics. It is the 5th oldest Higher Education Institution in Greece and the first school of political science. Today, Panteion University has nine academic departments covering the full range of social and political sciences. The Laboratory of Urban Criminology (EASTE) was established at the Section of Criminology – Sociology Department of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Panteion University in 2015 and covers a wide range of educational and research needs in the field of Criminology with an emphasis on the study of urban crime, urban security and policies for crime prevention at local level. It is very active in researching, organizing scientific events, training, providing the possibility for scholarships for doctoral students, publishing, forging partnerships with Greek and foreign academic institutions and research centers as well as with public services, local authorities and other scientific and social organizations in order to submit proposals on matters falling within its field of activity. Director of the Laboratory of Urban Criminology is Prof. Christina Zarafonitou, chief editor of the journal “Urban Crime. An International Journal”, published in the context of EASTE.

Role in the project

The Laboratory of Urban Criminology participates in IcARUS representing the Panteion University. It will contribute in the collection of data and research for tools and methods, and will conduct research and policy documents analysis. The scientific team will participate in the 'state of the art' Review of knowledge and learning about urban security and crime prevention across the last 30 years, mainly in the areas of juvenile delinquency and public space issues. Also, they are going to collaborate in the development of toolkits for practicioners, they will implement assessments, societal impact engagement, and will undertake dissemination and exploitation activities.
